Q1 : What is RSE ?

Please refer to the Audio page.

Q2 : What are the minimal requirements to use RSE ?

Please refer to the Tech Specs page.

Q3 : The « Sound > Use RSE [Realistic Sound Engine] » and the « RSE » (of the « Sound » toolbar) buttons are greyed out.

RSE is not installed on your computer.

Q4 : How to install RSE ? Where can I download the sound banks ?

RSE is installed on your computer when at least one soundbank is installed. If the « RSE » button is greyed out although you followed the installation process, this means that the installation might have malfunctioned or failed. In order to use the RSE, you must install the 3 soundbanks packs available in our customer area (free of charge).

In the download page, download and install (after closing Guitar Pro) all packs functions of your operating system (Windows or Mac) :

- Guitars: 150 Mo (Windows) / 147 Mo (Mac) - 7 guitars
- Bass Guitars: 44 Mo (Windows) / 43 Mo (Mac) - 4 bass guitars
- Drum Kits: 84 Mo (Windows) / 83 Mo (Mac) - 3 drum kits

Once the installation completed, start Guitar Pro again. The RSE button should be attainable.

Q5 : I installed RSE successfully on my computer, I activated it with the « Sound > Use RSE [Realistic Sound Engine] » or « RSE » options from the « Sound » toolbar, but my score is still played in MIDI.

First check that the instruments you set for your tracks are RSE instruments. Open the « Instrument » window for each track (« Track > Instrument... ») and check the « Use RSE » option. Then you can choose the sound bank and the preset you want.

Please note that RSE only works for guitars, basses and drums.

Q6 : RSE sounds too « synthetic ».

You can add and configure your RSE instruments to give realism. You can access them from the « Instrument » window (« Track > Instrument... »). There, you will find several options :
- Auto-Let Ring: applies let ring on the whole track.
- Auto-Brush: chords are brushed to the top or to the bottom depending on the context.
- Human Playing: adds imperfections.
- Auto-Accentuation on the Beat: strong beats are accentuated.

Q7 : I have performances problems with RSE (click/pop/skips/lags).

The minimum requirements to use RSE are :
- Pentium IV 1.7GHz (minimum) - 512 Mo memory for Windows.
- G3 1.3 Ghz - 750 Mo memory for Mac

This configuration will allow you to play 4 to 6 RSE tracks without CPU problems (sounds like cracks, clicks, and pops due to an overburdened processors), depending on the effects used. Of course, the more powerful your computer is, the better RSE will be.

There are no solutions to reduce the CPU consumption. Despite this, you can still remove the interpolation or reduce the treatment quality to lightly allay your computer (« Options > MIDI Setup »).

We advice you to keep the best settings for your computer:

Update the peripheral drivers; sound card, video card, etc.

- Update your computer system: « Windows Update » and « Apple Software update ».

- Keep your computer in optimum working order.
    - Don’t install redundant applications which could harm your computer’s performances (processor benefits) :
    - Avoid loading several applications at the same time as Guitar Pro using RSE (processor benefits)
    - Keep your hard drive clean and defrag it regularly.

- Try to optimize your computer :
    - Many processes are well known to be useless for the ordinary computer consumer. Try to reduce these burden jobs.
    - Many software starts as your computer starts. These tasks are useless. Try to eliminate these burden jobs when starting up.

Many websites can help you to optimize your computer in order to gain maximum performances from the RSE.

Q8 : When I play a score which contains both MIDI and RSE instruments I hear synchronization problems between these tracks.

You can set the general latency for MIDI instruments and the latency for RSE instruments. You have to find the right latencies which allow the instruments to be synchronized.

Windows users:

Go to the « Options > Audio Settings... ». In the « MIDI Outputs » section, you can set the latency for each MIDI port. In the « RSE Settings » section of the same window, you can set the latency for RSE instruments.

Mac users:

Go to the « Guitar Pro > Preferences... ». In the « MIDI Setup » tab, « MIDI Outputs » section, you can set the latency for each MIDI port. In the « RSE Settings » tab of the same window, you can set the latency for RSE instruments.
