Polaris
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Polaris have been making their mark on the metalcore scene since forming in 2012. With Jamie Hails on vocals, Rick Schneider and Ryan Siew (until his tragic death in 2023) on guitar, Jake Steinhauser alternating between bass and vocals, and Daniel Furnari behind the drums, the band’s roots lie somewhere between metalcore and post-hardcore, evoking bands like Architects, Northlane and Parkway Drive.
This musical alchemy manifests itself through technical riffs, intense breakdowns and varied themes such as anxiety, depression and grief, affirming Polaris‘ uniqueness in the genre.
The band’s journey began with the EP ‘Dichotomy‘ in 2013, followed by ‘The Guilt & The Grief‘ in 2016, before reaching a major milestone with their debut studio album, ‘The Mortal Coil‘, released in 2017 and was followed by ‘The Death of Me‘ in 2020. These albums were well received and earned the band several nominations, including at the ARIA Music Awards
In 2023, the band released ‘Fatalism‘, an album marked by the death of guitarist Ryan Siew. This third album, which debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, was a tribute to Siew, and the band decided to continue the tour planned in his honour.
Polaris quickly made a name for themselves with their performances, renowned for their energy and ability to captivate audiences. Polaris announced a headline tour of Australia in 2023 with August Burns Red, Kublai Khan Tx and Currents.
They had also planned to play a series of festivals in Europe, but had to pull out due to a serious personal crisis linked to the death of Siew. Nevertheless, they went ahead with the release and tour of ‘Fatalism‘, underlining the importance of the album, written with Ryan.
Over the years, Polaris have skilfully blended technicality, emotion and raw energy, establishing themselves as a pillar of modern metalcore. Their steady rise, musical evolution and dedication to their art have positioned them as iconic figures on the Australian and international metalcore scenes.
