In the seventies, Joan Jett established herself as the steady rhythm guitarist for the all-girl band The Runaways. But when the band fell appart, she went looking for men to back her up and created the Blackhearts. The first two albums (Bad Reputation in 1980 and I Love Rock n Roll in 1981) were smash hits and still prove to this day that a girl can sing and play the guitar with more agressivity and gusto than any punk band of the era.
